Now, presenting all you need to know about the greatest thing that has ever happened to curly tops (except for, you know, being endowed with those ringlets!)

The Curly Girl Method (CGM) means going totally shampoo free. Well, not just shampoo free, but also removing all products with silicone and sulfates from your routine. The reasoning behind these cuts is to give your curls extra moisture, which hair of this texture is desperate for! Shampoos—especially ones that include sulfates—are harsh and curly hair is already especially prone to breakage and frizz. Skipping shampoo entirely may seem extreme, but take it from many die-hard CGM fans, it makes an extremely awesome difference!

In any scenario, sulfates inevitably cause damage over an extended period of time and strip your hair of natural oils. Now… What do I mean by silicone free products? Well, silicone is in many hair care products as a way to make your strands shinier. Eventually silicone goops up and manufactures count on your use of a harsh sulfate-based product to strip your hair of debris. Gross. These are your curls we’re talking about, here! Don’t let all of that junk build up to begin with, especially now that you cut out sulfates.

In theory, you could use a sulfate and silicone free shampoo, but skipping them and going straight to the conditioner is the sort of moisture your curls never knew they needed until now. The conditioner will do the job to loosen dirt from your scalp and consider those sulfates permanently kicked to the curb.

So what are the takeaways? No sulfates, no silicone and no shampoo. Yes conditioner, yes sulfate-free and yes silicone-free. Seem like this is impossible to find? No worries! All of our SoapBox conditioners fit these requirements. All you need to worry about is which of our five scents is your favorite! I feel a curlathon coming on ;).
